Zhenya Oliinyk is an illustrator, cartoonist, and comic artist based in Kyiv, Ukraine. With a background in journalism and a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies, she brings a unique perspective to her work, which often delves into challenging social and cultural issues. Zhenya specializes in commercial and editorial illustration, graphic journalism, and publishing, with a focus on human rights, equality, feminism, history, trauma, mental health, and other complex social topics. She has worked with prestigious clients such as The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Economist, Adweek, Wired, Dargaud, Berliner Zeitung, Spiegel Start, Council of Europe, United Nations, and Amnesty International. Zhenya’s talent has been recognized with awards like the iJungle Illustration Awards 2020 – Merit Award in Editorial.

Zhenya’s journey as a freelance illustrator began in 2018, where she has since become known for her thought-provoking and impactful illustrations. Despite her diverse range of subjects, from human rights issues to plants and food, her work consistently carries a message of advocacy and awareness. Since the onset of the Russian war in Ukraine, Zhenya has channeled her experiences into graphic storytelling, offering a personal perspective on living in a country under attack. Her dedication to addressing critical social issues through her art has made her a respected figure in the illustration and cultural studies communities.
