Yuoning Chien, otherwise known as YOYO, is a Taiwanese-born, New-York based illustrator, whose creations act as a visual diary for seemingly unimportant everyday events. Thick lines and absurdist themes are defining qualities in YOYO’s work. But she truly shines in the silliness, which is there to spread a little joy in uncertain times.

In her illustrations, eyeballs can be seen everywhere, populating the surreal snippets of worlds Yuoning creates — and why not? Their blank, almost curious stares inject an immediate sense of fun in her work. It’s something that works perfectly in contrast to the clean, almost serious style of clean lines and bold colour.

In her short career to date YOYO has already been involved in some impressive projects, these include murals in Los Angeles to address homelessness in the area, artwork for the New York Film Festival, alongside creative for brands such as Kinfolk and Underpinned.
