Phillip Andrews is a graphic artist with over 30 years of experience across advertising, design and illustration in both New Zealand and the UK. Working across print, web, animation and interactive media, his practice spans static and moving image, though his core passion remains graphic art and character design.
For his Master of Design, Phillip explored the role of spokes-characters in visual communication, examining the power of comic characters as brand identity. He is also the founder of Chip & Chuck, a long-running comic concept launched in 1999 during the lead-up to Y2K, now evolved into a DTG apparel and AR-based series exploring the tension between AI and the analogue world.
Through two central characters, one robotic and one human, Phillip stages a visual debate around technological determinism and social constructivism, questioning whether humanity shapes technology or technology shapes us. His work blends illustration, theory and cultural commentary, inviting audiences to quite literally “wear the future.”
