#ARTIST298 | PERUVIAN

Paul Xyu is a Peruvian visual artist from Arequipa, trained in Advertising Design at the Peruvian Institute of Advertising (IPP). Working primarily within expanded and abstract photography, his practice explores form, texture, and perception, often blurring the boundaries between image, surface, and memory.

His work has been exhibited widely across Peru and internationally, including at the National Museum in Lima, Casa Prado in La Paz, and Manzana 1 in Santa Cruz. He has held multiple solo exhibitions and was awarded an Honorable Mention at the ND Awards (2022) in the Abstract Photography category. In 2025, he was selected for the FotoComBA International Program in Expanded Photography.

Alongside his artistic practice, Paul published Between the Canvases and Man: A History of 20th-Century Arequipa Painting (2024), reflecting his ongoing engagement with both contemporary creation and regional art history. Through Project 195, he represents Peru with a practice grounded in experimentation, research, and visual depth.
