Paul Gilbert is a Seychellois artist working in acrylic, known for a distinctive style that blends realism and impressionism. Born and raised on La Digue Island, he draws deeply on the natural world around him, with a special admiration for nature that runs through everything he creates. His paintings celebrate the life and landscape of the islands, Creole houses, fishermen, beaches, sweeping landscapes, and the movement of traditional dance in the sega and Moutia.
Paul studied fine arts at the School of Art and Design and art education at the School of Education and Community Studies at the Seychelles Polytechnic, beginning his career teaching art at secondary level. In 2008 he made a defining change, holding his first solo exhibition and stepping into life as a freelance artist. In the years since he has shown his work in exhibitions across the islands and led art classes for guests at several five-star hotels on Mahé, the main island of Seychelles, before staging his second solo exhibition in 2023.
