Maria Kofterou, born in Nicosia, Cyprus, is a visual artist and illustrator whose multidisciplinary practice moves fluidly between art and craft. Having studied Painting and Philosophy, she is drawn to the study of the natural world through drawing, capturing landscapes in ink on paper and encasing them in glass structures to preserve them, evoking the chaotic, interwoven character and psychic tone of a place. Alongside this she works as an illustrator, experiments with ceramics following an apprenticeship with the Cyprus Handicraft Service, and paints murals as part of the Deltacron crew.
Her solo exhibitions landscapes I / in vitro (2022) and landscapes II / in vitro (2026) were held at Is Not Gallery in Nicosia, and she recently showed at Port Art Fair 2026 in St. Petersburg with Shatunov Gallery. An award-winner in the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation's 2025 illustration competition, she has also completed residencies in Japan, at Arts Itoya in Saga and Space Department in Nara.
